17 July 2024 - The Project CASA related NATO Science for Peace Programme Advanced Research Workshop on “Climate and Security Action: The Role of Civil-Military Cooperation” in Sofia, Bulgaria, 16-18 July included on the programme a presentation on “The Gender Perspective” by Police Chief-Commissioner Nicoleta, Primavarus, CMDR COE.
The presentation outlines the importance of integrating a gender perspective within an organization, distinguishing between "sex" and "gender" and addressing common misconceptions about gender roles and biases. It emphasizes that gender mainstreaming is a strategy for integrating this perspective and that commanders bear overall responsibility for its implementation, supported by Gender Advisors and Focal Points. Furthermore, the presentation explores the complex relationship between gender, climate change, and security, highlighting how climate impacts are not gender-neutral and can exacerbate existing vulnerabilities. It suggests that considering this nexus is crucial for NATO's operations, resilience, and civil preparedness, as it influences security concerns, decision-making, and the nature of military responses.
