Esther Breffka is seconded from the Center for International Peace Operations to the European Security and Defence College, where she serves as the ESDC’s Climate Security Coordinator. In this capacity, she develops and manages the Configuration on Climate Change, Environment, Security and Defence (CCESD), organises and leads related training courses, seminars, and conferences, and fosters partnerships in the field both within the EU and internationally.

Esther has gained experience in humanitarian and international affairs as practitioner and researcher within the UN system, e.g., on inclusive food security assistance for WFP.

Esther holds a BA in International Relations (TU Dresden) and a MSc in Development Practice (Trinity College Dublin).

Her expertise includes climate security, human rights, sustainable development, and accountability to affected populations, with experience across Africa, Europe and South America.
